Student from across Fiji made their way back to school, months they were closed after the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Some students went back with little to no school supplies, some families struggle, with as many as 100,000 people estimated who have lost their jobs in the tourism sector alone.
So Fijian living around the world started an a Go-Fund-Me education initiative called @Fiji Back To School Aid.
Their aim was to support 200 Fijian student across primary and secondary and ensure they had school supplies and support they need.
A group of Fijians living in the US were involved because they wanted to find a way to help their community back in Fiji.
This is just to elevate some of the strains on our social safety net, you know a little help can go a long way for our people at home. He told Pacific Beat.
They raised over US18,000 around Fj40,000 and the money was directed to the Fijian based NGO Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji.
